Why is June 6th important ?................... Do you know ???????

At 0630 am this morning in 1944, the first landing craft landed on the beaches Normandy. As many of you may not know… this was called D-Day.

I found it very Ironic that this morning not a single news agency had this as a headline. 68 years ago these were the casualty numbers of American forces………. 1465 dead, 3184 wounded 1928 missing and 26 captured. It was only 68 years ago, yet the memory of this day seems to continue to slip our minds and it becomes less and less important. This was the largest joint military operation in history, where the free world held its breath for a day. If this invasion had failed the landscape of Europe and the world would look much different than it does today. It has a special place in my heart as fellow Marines and other service members gave all to make this mission succeed. They wrote check to this country in the amount of their lives.

So as you visit our “ trusted” news sources this morning and read about an election in Wisconsin, a porn actor who killed someone, an ex football coach heading trial for child molestation, Gay marriage argument, or Bill Clinton not following his speaking lines to help Obama, keep scrolling down and you might find a smaller story about D-Day……………….

I bet the ones that lost family members on this day remember.. let’s all take a second and do our part to remember that today should be a national holiday and for just a few moments the world should pause to thank the brave men and women that blindly stormed a beach of a foreign country in the name of freedom.

God Bless America!

Recorded audio from the original June 6, 1944 radio broadcast. This was President Franklin D. Roosevelt's prayer for American victory and for the protection of U.S. forces abroad. Now set to imagery of U.S. soldiers in action.

Here's an article giving a first hand account of some of the US Coast Guardsmen involved in the beach landings.
