When using the AVHRR SST overlays the temperature ranges are rather interesting, but I'm not sure when selecting between the various ranges, which overlap significantly in each range (ie 60-90 and 50-80), what do the various colors mean for those ranges? What colors mean a certain temperature? Is it possible to set it up so that the ranges do not overlap each other, or is that just what the various sensors in the satellite are seeing for each sensor range?

They are just different Color Ramps for the data.

Which color is what temp? It varies....
The way to do it is to move the Mouse around and see. Look in the bottom row to under Temp

Why did we do it this way?
What we wanted was a Sliding scale so you could set the color ramp start temp and finish temp so you could control the temp range. That worked but was VERY VERY SLOW....in the order of 5 mins....so the fall back position was to do preselected temp ranges. Someone looking for Bluefin in the winter and someone looking for King Macs in the summer need 2 different ranges. So we made a complet set of ranges that you can move up and down in the temp scale. A lot of thought went into that.
