If you all think CATCH SHARES are joke. Will think again...

For those of you that listen to SAFMC that CATCH SHARES will not be here in South Atlantic. You need to think again...

Last week SAFA "South Atlantic Fishermen's Association" "Southern Catch" Matt Rudy and his crew of commercial fishermen along with EDF and there Lobbies and Kate Quigley visited every Congressmen and Senator in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida about CATACH SHARES FOR VERMILLION SNAPPER IN SAFMC! This trip was paid for by EDF...

SAFA said they have 50% of commercial fishermen in SAFMC wanting a CATCH SHARES FOR VERMILLION SNAPPER AND THAT THE HAVE 50% OF LANDINGS TOO... This info will be persent to the SAFMC CATCH SHARES COMMITTEE ON MARCH 8, 2012 in Savannah, GA." The committee will receive a Presentation on Voluntary Individual Fishing Quota Program for several species in the Snapper Grouper complex in the South Atlantic by Kate Quigley, Executive Director of the South Atlantic Fishermen’s Association (SAFA) and Matthew Ruby, SAFA’s President."

According to the MSRA wording from 2007, if a group of fishermen can prove they land 50% or more of the annual allocation, they can petition the NMFS for a LAPP program. This info is on page 79 and 84 of the MSRA of 2007

I sure wish I had someone to pay my way to this meeting like EDF does for them.

Copy and paste the letter to the Contact mod" "Contact Fishery Managers" to the SAFMC : http://fryingpantower.com/modules.php?name=Contact and send it!

To: Catch Shares Committee

The idea that catch shares are good for the environment and the resource is completely untrue. There is no scientific evidence that catch shares help any stocks of fish on the planet. Catch shares take from the small operator and give to the large operator. Catch shares have caused devastation to fishing communities in the New England region, causing governors to declare economic emergencies.

We have catch limits and we have trip limits in the SA. These are working
and will continue to work. As soon as we get the data that is needed on
every species then the true health of our fish stocks will be realized and
fishermen will be able to get back to work at a level that they can make a
living and is sustainable for the fish stocks.

Catch shares are not needed in the South Atlantic region.
