| hoping to pick your brains alittle...while trolling for kings i've been using lead jigheads with a duster(assorted colors) with cigar minnows at 3-4kts 85% of the time the other 15% i typically fall back to big lures trolled faster. I use 2 flat lines 1 downrigger, and 1 on a #2 planer in the prop wash and close to the boat. I can't help but notice other boats(mostly charter boats) seem to always troll slow(2-4kts) and when i talk to them either there or at the ramp these guys catch kings anywhere from 15-20lbs. Most of the time i'm boating 7-11lb kings. Curious to know if there is another bait, technique, tackle, or could it be where there at on the reef, wreck, etc. Any advice would be appreciated |

Try some pirate plugs from South Chatham Tackle... Went for my first time last weekend and caught a 20# king on the green Pirate Plug Bob offers and had something hit the pink pirate plug but didnt hook up and one hit on the ribbonfish with no hook up... We were only there about 2 hours and the people I was with was ready to go in so I didnt have a chance to try anything else... Ive heard a lot of good things about the pirate plug and I am impressed using them my first time out to the jungle.... The king we caught was on a green pirate plug with a ballyhoo I think the pirate plug ID was PPBI44.... Cant offer too much info to help you out cause I am trying to learn everything myself... Hope this helps ya out some....

5-7 knots....Personaly I like 6.2 knots.
Faster on calm days....slower on rough days. Always keep the baits in the water and make sure they do not spin.
Also there is an Audio Fishing School that discusses catching king mackerel on FryingPanTower.Com. I will try to get it moved over here soon.

| I use a lead jughead rig with skirts also and bait with frozen cigar minnows, I usually have the best luck with them from 1 to 3 knots for kings. We have cught quite a few 15 to 25lbs with those rigs. I tie them myself. I have also heard good things about the Pirate Plugs, |

the hank brown rigs and pirate plugs are good with cigar minnows and ballyhoo. also good for live bait which is the best for big kings. _________________ 24' Mako -- Out of Bounds
